The Rocky Horror Video Game is a thing, and coming out this month

  • The game is described as a "bonkers classic platformer", which will allow players to relive the "strange journey of Brad and Janet like never before".
  • The Rocky Horror Video Game is set to release across PC via Steam (although it doesn't appear to have a Steam page as yet), Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

  • Krafton - which is perhaps best known for its work on PUBG - said this agreement will see the company "faithfully reinterpret and implement the main fun elements of the original for the mobile environment".
  • Krafton's subsidiary PUBG Studios will handle development of the mobile version of Pocketpair's monster catching survival game, the company said.

Future shutters PlayStation-focused Play magazine

  • The UK's Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM) was retired after 25 years in May 2021, with Future Publishing replacing it with Play, a new publication with the same editorial team but without the official Sony branding.
  • Whilst the rebranding saw the magazine's numbering reset, Play was otherwise the spiritual successor to OPM, "made by the same team of writers, editors, and designers." It ran for four years, bringing the OPM/Play legacy to a close after 29 years.

Indie Studio Black Flag shuts down following "communication breakdown" with publisher

  • "We appear to be another casualty of the current downturn in the video game industry," Black Flag says
  • The team said that whilst it could not "get into the specifics of our contract with our publisher," it did not own the Orphan Age IP "in a way that would allow us to shop it to another publisher," and "the market is also heavily dried up for indie publishing."
  • The studio has filed for bankruptcy

Epic Games CEO says company is now "financially sound"

  • Tim Sweeney said Epic had "spent the last year rebuilding and executing solidly on all fronts"
  • "We spent the last year rebuilding and really executing solidly on all fronts," he said. "I'm happy to tell you now that the company is financially sound, and that Fortnite and the Epic Games Store have hit new records in concurrency and success."
  • Sweeney also revealed that Fortnite achieved a new peak over the holidays, reaching 110 million monthly active users.
  • Epic Games Store General manager Steve Allison highlighted that the storefront reached 70 million monthly active users last month.

Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium Games 7-Day Work Week Ahead of CitizenCon

  • Cloud Imperium Games, the developer of Star Citizen, has mandated its developers to work seven days a week to meet deadlines for Citizencon on October 19th.
  • An internal email sent to staff yesterday states that the company needs to “double down over the next 18 days to make sure that once again we create an amazing experience for our community.” This includes finalizing patch 3.24.2 for Star Citizen and having a Squadron 42 demo showcase for Chapter 1.
  • The company mandate states:
  • All staff are to be in the office on Friday, October 4th and Friday, October 11th (typically a work-at-home day)
  • All staff are to be in the office on Saturday, October 5th, and Saturday, October 12th (for these days, the company will provide breakfast and lunch, with staff receiving company TOIL (time off in lieu) which can be stored and used for time off at a later date)
  • All staff are to work on Sunday, October 6th, and Sunday, October 13th (this can be a work-at-home day, but the company “encourages” people to be in the office. For these days and for those in the office, the company will provide breakfast and lunch, with staff receiving company TOIL, which can be stored and used for time off at a later date)
